Republicans from the House Oversight Committee asked Wednesday for the National Archives and Records Administration head to explain her agency’s role in raiding the home of ex-President Donald Trump earlier this week.
Rep. James Comer (Kentucky Republican) and other GOP legislators on the panel asked Debra Wall, acting Archivist of the United States to answer questions about the search warrant executed on Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.
“Committee Republicans worry that NARA will use the FBI to collect documents the president could, by his very nature as a constitutional role, declassify,” they wrote to Ms. Wall.
A Justice Department investigation found that 15 boxes contained classified information and national security information. These were sent to Mar-a-Lago, not the National Archives. This led to Mr. Trump’s raid on his estate.
Under Federal law, the president and his staff must send classified material to the National Archives after their terms end.
” The Biden administration continues to use the FBI as a weapon against political opponents. Oversight Republicans requests an immediate briefing to better understand the facts and NARA’s role in the FBI raid. We also request you to preserve any documents or communications that are related to or referring to the FBI warrant on August 8th, the letter stated.

Committee Republicans requested a briefing by Ms. Wall not later than August. 17. Federal oversight is given to the NARA by this committee.
The Republicans claimed that the NARA was focusing on Mr. Trump and not considering his past officials, such as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
They said the 31,000 emails deleted by Mrs. Clinton during the Benghazi inquiry was greeted by the FBI with “apathy.”
“Committee Republicans want Secretary Clinton to retire, but the FBI’s and NARAs actions towards Donald Trump deserve an explanation,” said the letter.
