Joe Biden is in Ohio for Promoting Economy and Preparing to Increase China's Tariffs

President Joe Biden will travel to Ohio Wednesday as his administration prepares to lift certain economic tariffs against China.

The president is expected to journey to Cleveland to talk about the growth of the economy and speak at the Iron Workers Local 17 Training Center.

Recent reports say the president may act as soon as this week to lift billions of dollars of tariffs on China-made goods shipped to the United States.

Corporations has campaigned heavily to get Biden’s tariffs raised, citing record high inflation as an argument.

But economists estimate lifting tariffs will have a very little immediate impact on consumer prices.

Congressman Tim Ryan, D-OH, is running in Ohio for Senate. He lambasted President Obama in June for not even considering it.

“Stopping at a communist government with a decades-long goal to undermine American manufacturing costs is not how we reduce costs,” he posted on social media. These kinds of reckless trade policies are what got us to this point .”

Ryan, however, previously opposed Trump’s tariffs on China. In 2018, he criticized Trump for inflicting “maximum damage on the U.S. economy for minimal gain.”

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Tuesday no decision had been made on tariffs, but criticized former President Donald Trump for imposing tariffs on China “in such a haphazard way, in a non-strategic way.”

Trump slammed Biden during a statement regarding his plans to raise tariffs. He called the plan the “greatest gift” to China.

” Taking away these Tariffs would signal the United States’ weakness, ineffectiveness, and continuing to do business as usual,” he said.
