Biden Economic Advisor Dismisses High Gas Prices

White House economic advisor Brian Deese told Americans struggling to afford surging gas prices that it’s worth the pain for the “future of the liberal world order” Thursday on CNN.

“What do you say to those families that say, ‘Listen, we can’t afford to pay $4.85 a gallon for months, if not years?’” CNN’s Victor Blackwell asked Deese.

“This is about the future of the Liberal World Order and we have to stand firm,” Deese replied.

“You have a presidential administration that is going to do everything in its power to blunt those price increases and bring those gas prices down,” Deese added. “The good news is that in the last two weeks we’ve seen gas prices at the pump go down about 20 cents but still unacceptably high.”

Deese also said that Biden was working to bring G7 allies to embrace a price cap on Russian oil before the G7 summit this week.

Gas prices currently stand at a $4.84 national average, according to AAA. That’s $1.72 more than the national average from a year ago, and $0.17 more than the national average a month ago. (RELATED: Gas Prices Down Slightly? That’s Because Americans Can’t Afford It)

But gas prices have decreased slightly in the last week. The average price for a gallon was $4.93 a week ago, about eight cents higher than the price Friday, according to AAA.
