Sen. Mitt Mitt Romney has dismissed any chance that he might re-try for the White House. He is looking back to his 2012 campaign.
The Utah Republican stated that he was unable to nominate someone with his conservative views in Trump’s era. He encouraged Rep. Liz Cheney, a Democrat from Utah to think about her options.
“I don’t intend to encourage anybody to run for President,” said Mr. Romney to the Deseret News. “I have done it myself and I won’t do that again. It’s not clear if Cheney really desires to run. If she ran .”
, she would not be the nominee.
Mr. Romney’s remarks come just after Ms. Cheney lost to Harriet Hageman, a Trump-backed candidate in Wyoming’s primary.
Ms. Cheney said recently in a post-election interview that a presidential run was something she’s considering.
Mr. Romney voted for Ms. Cheney’s reelection campaign and called her courageous. This congresswoman, who is undoubtedly Trump’s most prominent foe, has pursued him in her Jan. 6 committee role.
” I salute her courage. If there weren’t any consequences to doing the right thing, you wouldn’t be able to call it courage. She believed she was right. “I believe that she was right,” said Mr. Romney.
The senator was a former House Speaker Paul Ryan’s candidate in the 2012 electoral. He is the only GOP senator to have voted for former President Donald Trump to be impeached in his first impeachment.
He again voted to impeach Donald Trump following the Jan. 2021 Capitol Riot, which was similar to Ms. Cheney’s position.
Romney stated that he believes Mr. Trump will be the 2024 candidate if he is elected. He said that if he doesn’t choose to run, it would be given to someone who is aligned to his party.
” If he does not run again, it will be either people who were his supporters or people who didn’t say much about the man and would then be available to be the nominee .”
