Another President Trump said Thursday that the FBI affidavit justifying last week’s search at his Mar-a-Lago property should not be redacted. He called the Justice Department’s attempt to protect portions of the document “a cynical effort” to conceal their corruption.
Earlier, U.S. Magistrate Bruce Reinhart decided that parts of the affidavit were to be unsealed. However, he also granted the Justice Department one week to propose redactions.
A spokesperson for Donald Trump stated that the American people must see all of the affidavit.
“Today’s magistrate judge Reinhart refused to accept the DOJ’s attempt to conceal the entire affidavit. The entire affidavit must be made public, as the Democrats are known for hiding corruption in government documents.
The Justice Department vigorously tried to protect the affidavit from public disclosure, while conservative watchdog groups and media outlets sued.
Judge Reinhart stated that the Justice Department does not have to prove the entirety of the affidavit. He said that the government should have “a fair and full opportunity” to suggest redactions which would limit the amount of the affidavit being made public.
The judge ordered the deseling of minor documents involved in the case. These could be made public on Thursday.
