Justice Department fears Trump will destroy evidence, if the search warrant wasn’t secret

Justice Department officials asked a federal judge not to reveal the search warrant that was used by the FBI to raid the Mar-a-Lago estate of ex-President Trump, citing fears that he might destroy evidence. Court documents were unsealed on Thursday.

In a motion filed 3 days prior to more than 30 Armed agents stormed Mr. Trump’s Palm Beach, Florida residence, the Justice Department stated that a public search warrant “poses an immediate risk to the safety of the material sought.”

” The United States considers there to be good cause for the warrant being sealed, as the investigation’s integrity and evidence could be compromised,” Juan Antonio Gonzalez wrote the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida.

The petition to seal the search warrant was one of three documents that Judge Bruce Reinhart ordered made public.

The search warrant cover sheet and the application for the warrant were also not sealed. It stated that Trump’s investigation was not a result of any Justice Department investigations prior to 2019..

The search warrant application was signed by an FBI agent, whose identity is withheld. It states that the FBI will find evidence of crime, the “contraband fruits” of crime, or any other illegally obtained materials.
