Major Drug Company Announces Change Over Indiana’s Abortion Ban

Pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly said it is looking to expand its Indiana-based headquarters outside the state after Indiana placed a ban on most abortions.

” As a multinational company with headquarters in Indianapolis since 145 many years, our goal is to keep and attract thousands who contribute significantly to the state’s economic growth. After the ban, the company released a statement to media outlets stating that they will have to prepare for greater employment growth in other states.

The pharmaceutical company claimed it was “concerned that the law would hinder Eli Lilly’s ability to attract diverse technical, engineering and managerial talent from around the globe,” but did not provide any evidence. A number of Latin American, African, Asian, and Middle Eastern countries have more restrictive abortion laws than many U.S. states, according to the left-wing Center for Reproductive Rights.

” While we have increased our employee benefits to cover travel for contraceptive services that are not available locally, it may not suffice for some employees,” said the company.

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb (a Republican) signed the law on abortion late last week. This law prohibits abortion in all cases, except for rape and incest when the life of the woman is at risk.

“Following Roe’s overturning, I made it clear that I was willing to support legislation which makes progress in protecting human life.” Holcomb stated in a statement. After passing the bill in both chambers, Holcomb stated that he believes it achieves its goal with an overwhelming majority of support .”

Aside from Eli Lilly’s statements, the Biden administration and several major corporations condemned the law after it was passed.

Eli Lilly’s statements are likely to be criticized by Republicans who accuse other large corporations of trying to influence local politics. Georgia Republicans condemned Delta Air Lines, Major League Baseball and Coca-Cola for making critical comments about the Republican-backed voter law last year.

In Florida, Disney was criticised by Gov. Ron DeSantis was critical of a bill which would have prevented young children from being taught sexual orientation.

Indiana has banned abortion just weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Roe v. Wade was overturned and Planned Parenthood v. Casey had been overturned, which argued that a woman is entitled to an abortion under her Constitution. For years conservatives and religious groups have held that the abortion is murder.

Writing in support of the majority, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito stated that the U.S. Constitution does not mention abortions. He said that states should have the power to make laws allowing or restricting abortion.
