Fetty Wap faces at least 5 years in prison for drug offenses

CENTRALISLIP, N.Y.–Rapper Fetty wap pleaded guilty to Monday’s conspiracy drug charge. This carries a five year mandatory sentence. He admitted that he was part of a large drug trafficking network that transported drugs from Long Island to the West Coast.

The plea in Central Islip was made before U.S. Magistrate Steven Locke. Locke had already revoked the bond of Locke and sentenced him to prison two weeks earlier. He was released from jail after the plea and sent back to prison to await his sentence. However, it was not yet known when that date would be.

Locke revoked the rapper’s $500,000 bail, secured by property he owns in Georgia, after prosecutors said that Wap, whose real name is Willie Maxwell, threatened to kill a man during a FaceTime call in 2021, violating the terms of his pretrial release in his drug case.

The “Trap Queen”, rapper, was originally arrested in October for conspiring to bring large quantities of heroin and fentanyl into New York City.

He admitted to conspiring to distribute and possess controlled drugs, which was the most serious charge against him in the indictment. However, the plea only covered cocaine. The mandatory minimum sentence is five years, while the federal sentencing guidelines recommend two years. He was spared a possible life sentence by his plea.

His attorneys did not respond to messages seeking comments immediately.

Maxwell and five co-defendants were accused of conspiring to possess and distribute more than 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of heroin, fentanyl and crack cocaine between June 2019 and June 2020. The sentencing hearing is set for two codefendants, who pleaded guilty.

The scheme involved the use of U.S. Prosecutors said that the scheme involved using U.S. Postal Service, cars equipped with hidden compartments, to transport drugs from Long Island to West Coast. They were then stored there for distribution to Long Island dealers and New Jersey.

Maxwell became famous after his debut single “Trap Queen”, which reached No. 2, on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in May 2015.

This was his second arrest on Long Island. He was also arrested in 2019, for allegedly attacking three workers at a Las Vegas hotel-casino. After police claimed he was racing drag on New York City’s highways, he was arrested 2017 for DUI.
