Al Gore: Remove Filibuster for Pass Assault Weapon Ban and Climate Crisis Bill

An ex-Vice President Al Gore stated Sunday, on NBC’s Meet the Press that the filibuster had to be removed in order to pass legislation regarding climate change and an assault weapons ban.

Anchor Chuck Todd stated, “Public sentiment about climate is definitely growing more urgent. You have noticed that the concern for climate change is growing among rank-and-file Republicans. You know that public opinion has split on abortion and guns. It is not on the same side about climate change. And it doesn’t seem to have any bearing on some political decisions. What can you do to break this ?”

Gore stated, “Our democracy has been broken. We must pay close attention to this crisis if we want to stop the climate crisis.” It is almost impossible for Congress to pass legislation to ban these weapons of warfare, such as assault rifles, which are used in mass murders of children and hundreds of other casualty events this year. The reason why we cannot pass, for instance, to restore the ban on assault weapon is also the reason we cannot pass climate legislation. The minority government is still in place. The filibuster should be abolished. Big money is playing too much of a part in politics. The lobbyists who support the fossil fuel industry are still running all these ads trying to persuade people it isn’t that bad. It’s not a problem. We must rise up to the challenge .”
