Taylor Fritz beats Andrey rublev to make it to the Quarterfinals at the Western & Southern Open in Mason, Ohio.

Taylor Fritz won 44 and saved six break points on her way to a 6-7 (4) win, 6-2, 7-5 victory over Andrey Rudlev (6th seed). This was enough to get to the quarterfinals at the Western & Southern Open in Mason, Ohio.

Fritz, the 11 seed, delivered 13 aces while earning a showdown with top-seeded Daniil Medvedev. To defeat Rublev of Russia, he overcame 26 errors and six double mistakes at the Cincinnati-area tournament.

” I felt that my serve rhythm was slipping at times, but Fritz stated afterward. I tried to get some great serves and take more chances. At the end of the first set, I felt too passive. The second set was more challenging so I decided to try again.

” It was a huge match. It was a big match. I didn’t want to allow anything to bother me. Each time I was not pleased with something, I attempted to analyse it and figure out what next to do to win the point .”

Rublev registered 16 aces but the failure to convert any break points hurt him. He was 32 victorious against 26 errors.

Medvedev won with 7-5, 7-5 win over Canadian Denis Shapovalov.

The Russian had a 27-22 edge in winners but committed just 19 unforced errors to Shapovalov’s 29. Shapovalov was able to stay in the match due to saving 10 of 13 break points.

” The match was very tight,” Medvedev stated. It was great. Although he made more points than I, it felt like he missed a lot. But that’s how Shapo plays.

” My goal was to keep him there for as many points possible, and then try to put pressure on him whenever I could. There were times when I ran across the baseline trying to retrieve his shots .”
