CDC Stops the Differentiation Of Unvaccinated Persons Under Coronavirus Guidelines

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), updated their coronavirus guidelines in an effort to stop the differentiation among the unvaccinated.

Released on Thursday, the Guidelines include a lifting of mandatory quarantines to individuals who have been exposed, an end of screening for people without symptoms and elimination of any testing recommendations following potential exposure. The hospital and nursing home populations at high risk will be exempted from contact tracing.

The most striking change in the CDC’s approach to treating unvaccinated patients is probably the one that they made. Per NPR:

It also brings the recommendations for unvaccinated people in line with people who are fully vaccinated – an acknowledgment of the high levels of population immunity in the U.S., due to vaccination, past COVID-19 infections or both.

Greta Masetti, Branch Chief, Field Epidemiology and Prevention said that Americans should be able to move towards a time when the virus doesn’t interfere with their lives.

“This guidance acknowledges that the pandemic is not over, but also helps us move to a point where COVID-19 no longer severely disrupts our daily lives,” said Massetti. “We know that COVID 19 is here to stay.”

“High levels of population immunity due to vaccination and previous infection and the many available tools to protect the general population, and protect people at higher risk, allow us to focus on protecting people from serious illness from Covid-19,” she added.

Massetti also said that the latest shows that around 95 percent of the population has achieved some sort of immunity.

Dr. Marcus Plescia is the chief medical officer of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials . He stated that the new guidelines demonstrate the willingness of the CDC to let individuals take their own decisions regarding handling this virus.

” This is in line with the current pandemic,” he stated. “I do not think that there are any state or local governments feeling the need to make mandates .”

The original guidelines that remain are those of the CDC encouraging people to test positive for symptoms and providing a 5-day quarantine at home. For ten days, people infected by the virus should wear masks.
