A man is arrested after being accused of assaulting the White House Secret Service Officer

An agency spokesperson stated that the suspect had been detained on Aug. 9, after having allegedly attacked a uniformed Secret Service official outside the White House.

The assault took place around 12: 30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue NW, an area that is frequented by pedestrians and tourists hoping to see the White House.

A Secret Service spokesperson said in a statement to The Washington Post that the man “physically assaulted” a uniformed officer near a guard booth at 15th Street and that the attack was “without provocation.”

The spokesperson stated that the officer didn’t sustain any serious injuries. This incident is currently under investigation. The identity of the suspect in the arrest was not made immediately public.

The Epoch Times reached out to the Secret Service in order for more information.

Tuesday’s incident came shortly before President Joe Biden delivered remarks on the South Lawn of the White House as he signed the CHIPS and Science Act allocating a $280 billion funding package toward boosting domestic semiconductor manufacturing and scientific research.

“The CHIPS and Science Act boosts our efforts in making semiconductors here, America. These tiny computer chips, smaller than a fingertip, are the building blocks of our modern economy and power everything, from smartphones to dishwashers to cars,” Biden stated at the signing.

“America created the semiconductor… this law returns it home. Biden said that it was in the national economic and national security interests to do this.

CHIPS Law Signed into Law

According to the White House factsheet about the law, the CHIPS and Science Act “boost American silicon research, development and production, assuring U.S. leadership technology that forms foundation for everything from automobiles and household appliances to defense system .”

The law “strengthen American production, supply chains and national security and invests in research and science, technology and the workforce for the future to make the United States a leader in the industries and sectors of tomorrow including quantum computing, clean energy and nanotechnology .”

While Democrats and others who support the law tout its potential for improving jobs and national security through removing America’s dependence on foreign supply chain, critics claim that it amounts to an economic handout to corporations as it provides financial incentives for computer chip makers to increase production.

Critics also claim that the law may increase inflation (which was 9.1 percent at June) and cause tax burdens.

” The question we need to ask is this,” stated Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. during Monday’s speech from the Senate floor. “Should American taxpayers provide the microchip industry with a blank check of over $76 billion at the same exact time when semiconductor companies are making tens of billions of dollars in profits and paying their CEOs exorbitant compensation packages?”

” I think that the answer is no .”
