Pentagon: Iranian-backed militants attack U.S. military base in Syria

Iran supported militants launched rocket attacks on U.S. military bases in northeast Syria, killing three servicemen, Pentagon officials stated.

U.S. Central Command stated that the rockets touched down near Mission Support Site Conoco shortly after 7:05 p.m. local. Soon afterward, additional rockets were seen landing near Mission Support Site Green Village. The U.S. has two bases in northeastern Syria. troops.

Officials said that

American forces responded with attack helicopters to the attacks and carried out an “proportional, deliberate” response which resulted in several deaths of militants.

One U.S. soldier was injured but has since returned to duty. Officials said that he had been treated and is now back on duty. For minor injuries, two more are currently being evaluated.

” We are monitoring the situation closely,” CENTCOM Commander General Michael “Erik” Kurilla stated in a statement. We have all the capabilities to counter threats in this region and have complete confidence that we can protect our coalition partners and troops from any attacks .”

Officials claim that at least two militants from Iran were killed during the battle and some of their equipment was also destroyed.

Wednesday was less than 24hours after U.S. strikes targeted Syria facilities used by militias that are directly linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The strikes in Deir ez-Zor (Syria) Tuesday were a direct reaction to a missile attack on American troops in Syria last week.

The escalating conflict between U.S. forces and Iran-backed militants in Syria has not slowed down the Biden administration’s diplomatic engagements with Iran.
