The Common Sleep Disorder of Snoring: 5 Natural Solutions

Snoring can be a normal phenomenon. It is not a sign that someone is asleep soundly or sweetly.

Snoring could be considered a warning sign.

Snoring occurs when the upper respiratory tract becomes blocked and one must sleep hard. This is the sound that inhaled air makes vibrating contact with soft tissue of the respiratory tract.

According to statistics, about 20 percent of adults snore. About 60 percent of middle-aged to elderly (41-65 years old) men and 40 percent of women have habitual snoring.

Snoring is classified into two types: physiological and pathological.

Physiological snoring can be caused by fatigue, and a restless night at night. The sound of physiological snoring can be very brief and not too loud. If one switches from sleeping on their backs to lying on their side or stomach, they will cease snoring. This type of snoring should not be a problem.

Sometimes, snoring due to pathology is loud and often associated with obstruction of the respiratory tract. In severe cases, sleep apnea can even occur. People who snore may suffer from a chronic lack of qi, which can lead to reduced blood oxygen levels and hypercapnia. This will cause a decrease in the health and function of the heart and lungs. Literature reports that snorers are more susceptible to high blood pressure, heart disease and cerebrovascular disorders.

Snoring in Adolescence

Snoring can start in childhood and have severe health effects. Snoring can also cause poor quality sleep, which could lead to psychological disorders and disrupted study.

It is important to note that children with obstructive sleep apnea, which can be characterized as daytime restlessness and inability of concentration, behavior problems, learning difficulties, or other behavioral issues, are often mistakenly diagnosed with hyperactivity.

When the Elderly Snore

Snoring can have a negative impact on life expectancy. Hypoxia can be caused by the slow metabolism and heart rate of elderly people. Sleeping in a snore can worsen hypoxia and increase the risk of stroke, hypertension, heart disease and cardiopulmonary insufficiency.

Women that snore are more likely to get older. Snoring by females can lead to low blood oxygen and poor blood qi, which can cause loose, rough skin and premature crows feet. Snoring may also cause sleep disturbances such as dark circles under the eyes and large bags under them.

Snoring

1. Obesity: Among many causes of snoring, obesity is the most common one, accounting for about 70 percent to 90 percent. A pathology that causes snoring is excessive fat around the neck. This can cause the airways to narrow.

2.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes it is “qi deficiencies” that causes insufficient muscle tension.

3. Structural anomalies: Snoring can be caused by any factors, including turbinate hypertrophy (common with allergic rhinitis), nose septum deviation and tonsillar hypertrophy.

4. The cause of nasal congestion is inflammation and edema.

5. Tobacco: Inflammation and irritation of the upper respiratory tract can result from smoking.

6. Drinking alcohol: Even people who don’t normally snore, it is possible to snore as thunder when they drink alcohol. The symptoms that aggravate snoring can be worsened by drinking. The rate of drinking affecting snoring is about 65 percent.

7. Treatment: Is there a medication? Sedatives can be used to treat anxiety and insomnia, as well as muscle relaxants for back and neck pain. This may cause the throat muscles to relax more than normal, which could narrow the airways, causing snoring and worsening breathing.

Natural Remedies to Snoring

1. Obesity is a major reason why people snore. Weight loss should be considered for those who are obese.

2. People can quit smoking or drinking if they want to.

3. To reduce the risk of your tongue blocking the airway and snoring, it is a good idea to sleep on your side.

4. Insufficient muscle tension is one of the main causes of snoring. This is mostly due to qi deficiencies in traditional Chinese medicine. Snoring can be reduced by taking qi-tonic Chinese medicine and/or more exercise to improve the body’s strength.

5.

Upper respiratory tract obstruction can be treated with acupuncture or Chinese medicine.
