Public University Searches General Writing Consultant — Who Actively Fights Oppressive White Race

If you want to help people learn the art of writing at University of Maryland you must believe that white people are the perpetrators. You should also have protested against oppression of the pale.

The college is looking for a Writing Consultant.

A dash of detail from the online Listing

  • WHO is eligible to apply: Students at UMB and students of UMBC or UB graduate programs.
  • Who we serve: UMB students enrolled at its seven schools, as well faculty and post-docs.
  • WHAT do we do? Writing consultants provide a range of education assistance, mostly through peer consultation. Many of our clients want feedback about their courses assignments. However, we have many appointments that are focused on cover letters and CVs.

The Center provides “face-to face sessions” and “online sessions,” using video/audio, and email. The consultants will combine in-person hours with virtual hours

“Primary duties” can be interpreted as:

  • In every meeting, use research-based strategies to center writing styles that are linguistically or culturally different as academic and/or social norms.
  • Provide individual feedback to Writing Center clients during 50-minute consultations, either via online meetings or written feedback (eTutoring).
  • Learn the techniques presented in the Writing Center’s annual consultant preparation program. This includes both face-to-face and online training, as well as continuing cohort meetings that are held bi-monthly. All assignments must be completed during the paid hour.
  • First-year consultants only: Actively participate in the BWCP, see above, during your first year.
  • Attend regular staff meetings online or face to face to discuss adjustments and improvement to the writing center’s practice.
  • Consult clients or consultants to use Develop print and online writing materials.

If you love writing and consulting you might think you would be a great candidate for this job. The publicly funded university has a unique ideological approach. The college won’t accept you if you are a conjugator of color blindness.

Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s or equivalent degree, and “extensive academic/scientific writing experience in undergraduate career and beyond.” It is also necessary to have a “good faith commitment” as well as a willingness to “continually study”.

But

There are other “Preferred Qualifications”.

  • Previous experience in peer tutoring, ideally at a writing center
  • Previous teaching experiences, ideally for adult learners
  • Background science writing

And:

  • Previous antiracist coursework or activism

Here’s a UCLA Law Professor Kimberle Crnshaw explaining the term Good Housekeeping

“Antiracism is the active dismantling of systems, privileges, and everyday practices that reinforce and normalize the contemporary dimensions of white dominance. This, of course, also involves a critical understanding of the history of whiteness in America.”

As relayed by CNN, antiracism erases the following microaggressions:

  • ” All lives are important .”
  • ” We’re all one big happy family .”
  • ” I’m not a colorblind. It doesn’t matter if your skin is white, brown, yellow or green.

University of Maryland’s application asks for a 250-400-word explanation on how candidates might fight “white supremacy.”

As noted by Campus Reform, the Writing Center’s webpage emphasizes racial conflict:

This campus job will benefit students who are committed to taking antiracist actions in their own workplaces and communities.

And from the Center’s “About Us” section:

We know writing is more than just words and the arrangement of grammatical unit. Our work with writers is approached with antiracist eyes.

Why would an institution want its employees to oppose unity? What would the benefits of a racial lens for writing be? No matter what the answer, U of M doesn’t have all of them.

So the academia goes, so does America’s future.
