Rand Paul asks NIH for Fauci’s records: Americans Deserve Transparency

Senator Rand Paul (R–KY) has asked the National Institutes of Health to retain all communications and documents in Dr. Anthony Fauci’s possession before Fauci resigns. This is to make it clear that transparency is important for the American people, regardless of Fauci’s high-profile positions.

Fauci was the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He announced this week his resignation from the posts of NIAID director and chief of the NIAID Laboratory of Immunoregulation.

“I will be leaving these positions in December of this year to pursue the next chapter of my career,” he said, choosing to depart from these posts, conveniently, after the midterm elections, where Republicans hope to regain a majority in both the House and Senate. But, Republicans insist that Fauci is not exempted from further inquiries.

“In light of this announcement, I formally request you ensure the preservation of all documents and communications within Dr. Fauci’s possession related to his tenure at the National Institutes of Health (NIH),” Paul wrote in a letter addressed to acting NIH Director Lawrence Tabak, first obtained by the Daily Caller.

“This information is critical to ensure that Congress has access to information necessary to conduct proper oversight,” Paul continued, specifically requesting the preservation of “all records, e-mail, electronic documents, and data created by or shared with Dr. Fauci during his tenure and NIH that relate to COVID-19, including, but not limited to, NIAID-funded coronavirus research.”

” This preservation request also covers all records of official business that was conducted using non-official accounts,” said he.

“The American people deserve transparency and accountability from the NIH regarding the COVID-19 pandemic regardless of Dr. Fauci’s future retirement plans,” Paul added.

This warning shot isn’t the first Fauci received. Paul, who famously questioned Fauci about his NIH funding gains-of-function fraud research, warned Fauci that Fauci’s retirement would not stop a thorough investigation into the causes of the pandemic .”

.

” He will be required to give evidence under oath about any conversations he had regarding the leak.” Paul stated:

Fauci’s resignation will not prevent a full-throated investigation into the origins of the pandemic. Fauci will have to give evidence under oath about any conversations he had regarding the laboratory leak.

House Leader Kevin McCarthy (R–CA) sent a similar warning.

“Dr. Fauci’s guidance in keeping schools and businesses closed, while concealing the truth about COVID’s origins led to Fauci losing the American public trust.

A majority of @HouseGOP will hold Fauci accountable.

Dr. Fauci has lost trust in the American people for his unwise guidance that kept schools and businesses closed while concealing information about the origins COVID.

He owes the American people answers. A @HouseGOP majority will hold him accountable.

Fauci now asserts that lockdowns didn’t “forever irreparably” damage anyone, and that Republican oversight was nothing but pure “character assassination .”
