Cindy Axne, a vulnerable Democrat, is silent on Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness Program

.

Vulnerable Rep. Cindy Axne is Iowa’s lone Democrat congressman and has not said if she supports President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness program. This scheme could potentially cost American taxpayers more than $1 trillion.

Axne is the lawmaker who will be up for reelection in the year’s most volatile state. She is also the Iowa delegation’s only member to not release a statement describing her position on the plan.

The congresswoman has yet to make a statement via her campaign-or taxpayer-funded website, or on social media.

Axne’s office didn’t respond to multiple Breitbart News requests for comment.

Additionally, it appears that Axne also did not respond to requests for comment from the Axios De Moines or the Des Moines Register.

Iowa Sens. Chuck Grassley (R) and Joni Ernst (R), and U.S. Reps. Randy Feenstra (R), Ashley Hinson (R), and Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R), all made statements, the Register reported.

Grassley, Ernst made similar statements acknowledging the fact that Biden’s plan would fuel inflation. Feenstra’s and Hinson’s statements stated that the bill would be a handout to the rich and a massive redistribution wealth to the most .”

wealthy.

Miller-Meeks stated that Biden’s student loans forgiveness program would “undercut students who struggle to pay tuition fees and parents who have for many years saved and sacrificed for college education .”

Axne is yet to issue a statement. However, Axios reports that Zach Nunn (Axne’s Republican opponent) made his own statement. Biden’s student loans forgiveness program was not fair to Americans with outstanding debts or those who didn’t attend college.

Nunn stated that colleges must address rising tuition costs. He also expressed concern that loan forgiveness could reduce incentives to people to pursue underfilled career options like nursing and teaching.

On Wednesday, Biden announced his decision to forgive up to $20,000 in student debt for Americans making less than $125,000 a year. On social media, the president detailed his plans and described it as “a campaign promise” that would allow “working families to have breathing space” when it comes to student loans.

University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Wharton Budget Model analysis on Friday noted that the “debt cancellation alone will cost up to $519 billion,” but “depending on future IDR program details to be released and potential behavioral (i.e., “non-static”) changes, total plan costs could exceed $1 trillion.”

Axne refused to make a statement to members of the media. This was immediately attacked by Republicans who wanted to remove her from office in November.

National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Mike Berg said, “Cindy Axne’s refusal to take a position on something that will cost taxpayers $500,000,000,000 is disrespectful to Iowans. This reckless proposal should be immediately condemned by her.

Also, Republican Party of Iowa chairman Jeff Kaufmann said, “This isn’t the type of representation Iowans are expecting from their elected officials.” Axne doesn’t seem to have received her marching orders yet from Pelosi and she seems too scared to confront Iowans .”

Kaufmann said, “Iowans, and the media, should be lined up for Axne’s next public event. Who knows when? to demand answers !”
