Laura Loomer narrowly defeats the incumbent in Florida’s primary for the GOP House

.

NEW YORK – On Tuesday, Dan Webster, the incumbent Florida Republican Rep. defeated Laura Loomer. Loomer is a far-right provocateur in Florida that’s been blocked from some social media platforms for making anti-Muslim or other comments.

Webster was in a surprisingly close race against Loomer. Loomer is a nationally recognized activist who wanted to align herself with ex-President Donald Trump.

In the other races, the political career and power of first-term progressives were threatened by redrawn maps that shifted U.S. House district in New York. They also ensured the removal of one of Congress’ most powerful Democrats.

The scramble resulted in contentious races between Democrats from the second-largest Blue state in the nation, where both incumbents and challengers saw a window of opportunity to gain or lose power.

There was more uncertainty about how New York’s congressional primaries would turn out, as low voter turnout is expected. After the two-month long statewide and state assemblies primaries, this was New York’s second primary election day. New Yorkers aren’t used to casting their primary ballots so late in the summer. Many were also finding that long-standing district lines had changed, which added to confusion. The state closes its polls at 9 PM. EDT.

Primary election for U.S. House Seats in Florida was a test of conservative firebrands with the threat of federal investigation over his head.
