Fauci, January 6, Deniers’ “Distortion Of Reality” Is Impeding Public Health Response

The outgoing director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci, said Monday that those on the right were creating an environment in which proper responses to pandemics can’t be made.

Maddow stated, “There’ve been many theories and conspiracy theories, accusations and more wild claims about COVID specifically.” That’s the time when those on the right started to get into your head and target you during this pandemic .”

She wondered, “Does this feel different?” The right is demonizing you in a strange, persistent, violent and ongoing way that’s based on COVID. Just to inquire from you if this kind of criticism feels qualitatively different than your previous criticism ?”

Fauci said, “It’s phenomenally, 100% different. It’s like apples and elephants

He said, “What are we dealing with now? It’s just a distortion in reality. This is not conspiracy theory. It’s pushing back against sound public health measures. You know, trying to make it appear that saving lives is an invasion on freedom. This is a huge difference to the AIDS activists who had a solid foundation .”

Fauci said, “What spilled over into and in many respects impeded the proper response to public health challenges is something we see that extends well beyond public healthcare. This is a distortion of reality. It’s amazing that in a world of untruths almost becoming commonplace, we are able to see it happening right before our eyes, and then deny it. That’s our environment. It’s possible to see January 6, on television, but you will find some who don’t believe that it actually happened. What could this possibly mean? It’s making it worse by denying the existence of public health principles .”

He stated, “It definitely is interfering avec the proper approach for a public health problem .”
