Cheney Discusses with Pence about Testifying before the J6 Committee

Mike Pence appears to have played both sides in the FBI raid at the Trump home.

While Pence stated that he was “deeply disturbed “by the raid, and suggested the Republican Party hold Attorney General Merrick Grland responsible for his actions, he spoke out against criticizing the FBI and called on Republicans to stop calling to “defund” the FBI.

Talk about your inability to understand the room. This is part of Mike Pence’s problem. Pence takes a petty position that doesn’t solve the problem, even though it seems imperative to ask the FBI.

That’s not an attitude that’s going to help him in his quest to run in 2024. Although he knows he has no chance, he still seems to be struggling.

But Pence then said that he might consider talking to the Jan.6 Committee. This is also an unacceptable position, as most Americans think the Committee is biased and out to get Trump. It is unlikely that you will be able to help the Democrats with their witch hunt.

Now, Rep. Liz Cheney (R.W.Y.) has confirmed that the Committee is currently in discussions with Pence’s lawyer about his possible testimony.

Cheney also played both the ends and the middle. Pence was concerned about executive privilege, she said. She said she believes in executive privilege. She was telling him, in essence, to forget about his concerns and to let go of any worries over legislative encroachment on executive. Instead she wanted him to testify.

She stated that she hopes he will testify, and suggested that Trump might be asked to testify.

“I would hope that he will understand how important it is for the American people to know every aspect of the truth about what happened that day,” Cheney said when asked if she thought Pence would testify in September.

When asked if former President Donald Trump would be asked to testify in front of the committee, Cheney responded by saying she did not “want to make any announcements about that” and would “just leave it there.”

Pence replied to these comments.

Just a few hours ago Pence told reporters at the IA state fair: “If they submit a formal application for the committee I’ll give it due consideration but we’ll do so reflecting on the unique responsibilities that I have to defend the prerogatives of my office as vice president.” https://t.co/k6kUwWxmea

Reading between the lines it seems like Pence might be reserving judgment at this point, due to executive privilege. It’s not clear what Pence would actually say if he didn’t make it public. He would do well to avoid testifying. He probably won’t agree to testify if he doesn’t have a written agreement in the last few months.

At this stage, the Committee has run out of ammunition. They are desperate to find something that will pin Trump on the Committee and get Americans to pay attention to the Committee. Cheney suggests calling Trump. But that is a dangerous move by the Committee since Trump would not hesitate to call them out for their actions in a testimony. They will probably pull that out later, if they have to. This is all they need to draw attention.
