John Fetterman 2013: “I Did the Right Thing” Pulling Gun On Unarmed Black Jogger

Pennsylvania Democrat senate candidate John Fetterman said he “did the right thing” pulling a gun on an innocent unarmed black jogger in 2013.

On Wednesday, a video of a 2013 local report went viral on social media that featured Fetterman defending his misdeed on camera. Fetterman was at the time the mayor of Braddock.

” I believe that I did the right things, but it is possible I broke the law. And, of course, the law doesn’t apply to me, he said to Action News 4.

The incident reportedly occurred outside Fetterman’s home in 2013 after hearing what he thought were gunshots on a nearby street. Fetterman claims that he saw an unidentified man in a mask, wearing goggles and walking through the neighborhood. He immediately identified him as a suspect. Evocative of the Ahmaud Arbery tragedy, Fetterman then called 911, armed himself with a shotgun, and proceeded to follow the stranger in his truck before the situation escalated into a confrontation.

” I didn’t know it was rampage. It was not a drive-by. I didn’t understand. Fetterman said that no one knew what was happening at this point, other than the fact that a lot of shots were being fired from what seemed like a high powered rifle.” “At that moment, as a parent and as mayor, I decided to intervene until first responders could reach the scene and resolve it .”

Fetterman pulled out his shotgun as he approached the man, and told him to slow down.

” I ordered him two times to stay there. He refused. Fetterman stated that this was when I realized I had to be sure, as I did not know what was ahead. He said that he did take a gun from his car but did not aim it at me. “I didn’t have either a safety valve or a round chambered in my car.

Chris Miyares countered Fetterman’s claims and claimed that Fetterman aimed his shotgun at him.

” I took off my sunglasses and pulled out my earphones. Then, Miyares stated that he followed me into North Braddock in his Ford F-2022 and pulled out a shotgun and pointed it at my chest. “He jumped in his Ford F-150 and followed me into North Braddock and pulled a shotgun and aimed it at my chest.”

Miyares said that Fetterman believed that the sound Fetterman was hearing were children firing bottle rockets from nearby.

” There were three children in the lot near the library, where there is a dumpster. The three kids were playing with bottle rockets. It was something I heard as I ran up Parker Avenue. I thought it was funny, but it got me thinking about it until I saw the colors.” he stated.

Miyares stated that he was able to immediately raise his arms when police arrived.

Though Miyares maintains that Fetterman has only lied about the incident, he ultimately supported his U.S. Senate bid in 2021, arguing that he has done more good than bad as a politician.
