D.C. makes monkeypox dashboard. It will be updated weekly from now on

.

Almost all of D.C.’s monkeypox cases are men, with the largest share being white and in their 30s, according to data released Wednesday by the District.

D.C. Health data revealed that 98% cases of 350 Monkeypox in D.C. were recorded in men.

White people made up 48% of the city’s reported cases, while Black people made up 37%.

The most affected age range was 30-34 (28% of all cases) followed by 35-39 (22%). Those between the ages of 25-29 (19%) and 40-49 (17%) also had significant representation in the data.

Immunizations by sex have mostly gone to men (94%) while most of District’s doses (62%). have been given to whites. Black people make up 21% of the city’s vaccinated population.

Most cases are being reported in Ward 1 (21%), Ward 2 (20%) and Ward 5 (13%).

D.C. Health said that the dashboard will be updated every Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Although the data didn’t identify any cases by sexual preference in the case, Dr. LaQuandra Nessebitt, former director at D.C. Health said last month that homosexual men are most likely to be affected by this disease.

Dr. Nesbitt also said then what the publicly available data shows now — white men in their 30s were the most affected demographic.

The new process follows a Monday correspondence from Elissa Silberstein, at-large D.C. Councilmember. It was sent to D.C. Health. Seven other members of the council signed the letter.

The letter was sent to all who were not in high-risk areas.

” Many residents not at risk of monkeypox but who live in the area are afraid for their health and those of their family members who will be returning to school this month, Ms. Silverstein said. They don’t feel that they are able to assess their risk or protect their loved ones .

Ms. Silverstein advocated in her letter for an “equitable distribution of vaccines”.

The District switched to a single-dose strategy for monkeypox vaccines last month to provide some protection while it waits for more federal shipments.
