Liz Cheney Compared to Abraham Lincoln In Concession Speech

Rep. Liz Cheney, a Republican from Wyoming, compared herself with former President Abraham Lincoln in her concession speech after she lost to Trump’s Republican challenger Harriet Hageman.

Cheney claimed she lost her primary election only because she failed to “go along with President Trump’s lie about the 2020 election.”

” It would have been necessary that I allowed his continuing efforts to undermine our democracy and destroy the foundations our republic. That is a path I could not and would not take,” Cheney said.

Cheney stated that her opposition to Trump’s former president was grounded in the “principles” Congress members are bound to uphold and that she understood the political implications of supporting Trump.

She then compared herself with Lincoln who saved our nation in the Civil War.

” Abraham Lincoln was the original party champion, but he lost the elections to the Senate and House of Representatives before winning the most significant election.” Cheney stated. “Lincoln won the election. He saved the union, and he set out our obligations as Americans throughout history .”

She also quoted Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address and claimed that Americans’ “highest duty” is to “protect the foundations of this constitutional republic.”

After comparing herself with Lincoln, Cheney considered the January 6 Capitol Riots. She claimed that America would never be the same if Americans didn’t “hold the .”

responsible accountable.”

“At its heart is the attack of January 6th, there was a willingness of dangerous conspiracies to attack the core of our nation,” she stated.

” Our nation is heading once more towards crisis, lawlessness, and violence,” Cheney said. No American should back election deniers in any real responsibility position, where they refuse to respect the law and corrupt our future .”

She claimed also that Trump was spreading an “insidious lying” regarding the FBI raid on his Mar-a-Lago home. This will “provoke violence, threats of violence .”

“Trump is aware that the expression of these conspiracies can provoke violence and threaten violence,” Cheney stated. This happened again on January 6. While it is obvious that violence will continue to escalate, he and others are continuing, intentionally, to fuel the danger .”

Cheney once again mentioned Lincoln. He stated that Civil War-era soldiers like Lincoln and ex-President Ulysses S. Grant “speak to us down through the generations .”

“Lincoln and Grant and all who fought in our nation’s tragic civil war, including my own great-great-grandfathers, saved our union, their courage saved freedom,” Cheney said. They are speaking directly to us, down through the generations, if we listen carefully. We cannot afford to waste the .”

sacrifices of so many.

In conclusion, Cheney pledged to “do whatever it takes” to prevent Trump from regaining control of the presidency.

” We must have a clear vision of the danger we are facing and what it takes to overcome it. Cheney stated that he has been clear since January 6th, saying that he will do everything necessary to make sure Donald Trump never comes near the Oval Office again.

” I ask you to please join me tonight as we depart here. Let us agree that Republicans, Democrats, and independents will unite against those who seek to destroy the republic,” Cheney said. They are mad and determined. They haven’t seen the strength of Americans United, committed to freedom .”

and defending our Constitution.
