Sean Patrick Maloney: His party must stop sounding like MSNBC host, and adds that Dems have a ‘likability problem’

Democratic Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (D–NY) claims that his party is having a “likability issue” and that elected officials should stop sounding like MSNBC host and instead sound normal.

Maloney, the Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee was interviewed by The New York Times editorial board

. He warned Democrats about the midterm elections ahead.

NYT deputy editor Patrick Healy asked Maloney whether Democratic elected officials were out of touch.

Healy inquired: “I am curious about immigration or L.G.B.T.Q. Healy stated that rights are not the only issue. What do you see? What do you see?

Maloney replied: “Well…I’ve always said this to my coworkers. If our positions are so popular, then why don’t we like them more?” That is a good question.”

Healy questioned Maloney about his answers. Maloney responded:

“There will be broad agreement among our caucus members, including conservative Democrats and progressives. They believe we have a problem with likability. I think the reason is because we work really quickly, are passionate about what we do, and don’t give people enough time to understand it all. We sometimes give people too little time to get to know what we are doing .”

.

Maloney added:

” If I have had success in Trump’s district it is because I take into consideration the priorities and interests of my constituents. If we talked like humans, it would be possible to build relationships with voters

Maloney said that voters believe Democrats are out of touch and elitist.

” Most voters we asked about this believe that they’re out-of touch with the world, that they’re elitists, that they’re better than them. And they don’t like it … And we have a likability problem.”

Maloney also said that the Democrats were speaking in the same way as MSNBC’s host Chris Hayes.

” I mean, listen. What do you think? Anything that Chris Hayes says. The fact of the matter is, that the people who speak on cable news channels (I love Chris Hayes) are not speaking the same language as my voters. It’s not the way my neighbors talk, it’s not the way my family talks … If I’m talking to a sheet metal worker in Pine Bush, he doesn’t talk about communities of color, he doesn’t use the word ‘rubric.’ He doesn’t talk about — the first-generation folks working in Newburgh don’t use the word ‘Latinx.’ Most people don’t understand who are cisgender, why they need to put pronouns on their email signature.”

He had to speak for the Democratic party. It might be canceled, but it had to be said publicly. Democrats lack touch. Many elected officials are elites and have the same talking points as MSNBC.

Maloney will face AOC-endorsed Far-Left State Senator Alessandra Biaggi in November.
