FACT CHECK: Ron DeSantis Defended The FBI’s Search Of Mar-A-Lago On ‘Hannity’

*A video shared on Facebook purportedly depicts Republican Florida Governor. Ron DeSantis defending the FBI’s recent search of former President Donald Trump’s Florida residence on “Hannity.”

The clip is digitally edited. Fox News spokesperson denied that the clip was authentic.

The FBI searched Trump’s Mar-a-Lago, Florida home on August 8, according to The Washington Post .. According to CNN , the raid was apparently part of an investigation by Justice Department into whether Trump improperly removed sensitive documents from his White House home.

.A Facebook clip appears to show DeSantis defending FBI’s search for Mar-a-Lago in a segment of Fox News’ Sean Hannity. Hannity, Lara Trump, and DeSantis debate whether the term “raid”, as used by CNN, is appropriate.

DeSantis asserts it wasn’t a “raid”, and then states that the operation “served valid processes in accordance with laws and Constitutions of the United States of America and Florida.” Hannity is later accused by DeSantis of “trying” to feed stories to the media. The clip has been digitally edited. This clip was broadcast on Hannity’s Aug. 9 show and shows DeSantis giving his monologue regarding the raid. The clip of DeSantis used in the video is from a press conference he held in December 2020 in which a reporter questioned the governor about the search of the home of Rebekah Jones, a former state health employee.

Jones was investigated after she allegedly made “unauthorized comments about Florida’s COVID-19 dashboard” in May 2020, according to WPTV. (RELATED: No, Donald Trump Did Not Post This Statement Criticizing Ron DeSantis And Joe Rogan)

This is not the first false claim made in relation to the FBI raid of Mar-a-Lago. Check Your Fact previously debunked a claim that a call between the head of the FBI and President Joe Biden had been leaked, proving the search was “unlawful.”
