China Honors Taliban For Providing Afghans “Better Security” One Year Later

China celebrated Monday’s anniversary of Taliban jihadist group seizing power. Through its official Foreign Ministry, propaganda arms and its Foreign Ministry, it repeatedly condemned America for “failures in the country” and praise the Taliban for “advanced governance” and better “security .”

The Chinese Communist Party emerged as the Taliban’s most trusted foreign allies in the last year. Taliban spokesmen immediately expressed in public a desire to see the Communist Party invest in Afghanistan and for them to join Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a global debt trap scheme in which China offers predatory loans to poor countries meant to be used to build infrastructure.

“China can play a constructive role in Afghanistan’s reconstruction and economic growth and prosperity,” Suhail Shaheen, a Taliban spokesperson and the current UN envoy, said shortly after Kabul fell. It is to be expected that China .”

will play this role.

Chinese state media and officials have openly stated a desire for the extraction of Afghan natural resources. This includes its huge mineral riches. An anti-American Taliban government is also in place. China also announced plans to build a 150-factory industrial park in Kabul in May.

China has been one of the few states to recognize the Taliban’s status as an official “interim”, or “caretaker” government in Afghanistan. The majority of the world does not recognize the Taliban, but it doesn’t consider Ashraf Ghani, the former president of Afghanistan, the head of Kabul government. This is a ambiguous position.

After 20 years waging war against the U.S. government – which entered the Afghan war theater following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks by al-Qaeda – the Taliban returned to power on August 15, 2021. Ghani flew out of the country in a helicopter and allowed Taliban terrorists to take control of Kabul. Taliban leaders had abstained from attempting to overthrow Ghani’s government in earnest following the development of an agreement between them and the government of former President Donald Trump, but returned to full jihad after leftist President Joe Biden announced in April 2021 that he would violate the agreement for U.S. troops to leave on May 1 of that year.

A year ago, the Chinese government-run Global Times propaganda outlet described the Taliban’s return to power as “a sunny day in Kabul.” On Monday, the Global Times acknowledged that “challenges remain” for the Taliban but offered an overall positive assessment of the terrorist organization’s stranglehold on power.

” Several of the interviewees noted to the Global Times how the Taliban have more administrative abilities, however the “tribal culture” still has great influence over their governance style,” claimed the newspaper. They claimed that the country’s security has improved since the Taliban came to power .”

The Global Times has praised the Taliban’s “overall significant decrease in armed violence”, citing United Nations statistics starting July. The newspaper interviewed a Chinese businessman who said that the Taliban offered help to Afghan merchants. He encouraged them to try to start their own businesses. This theoretically would benefit both the Taliban as well as Afghan civilians.

“We were shut down for one week after the Taliban invaded Kabul. “We were watching closely the Taliban’s attitudes toward citizens, former governments, and foreigners, just like everyone else,” Yu Minghui (a merchant) was quoted as saying. Four days later, the Taliban’s newly-appointed police chief came to us. He told us not worry and asked us if we need help .

The newspaper claimed also that the Taliban had made improvements in health care and taken “a more flexible approach” to foreign women’s treatment, even though it admitted the brutal repression of Afghan women.

To the extent that Taliban rulership has fallen, the Global Times blamed outside forces such as America, global financial institutions and other countries for their incompetence.

“Afghanistan under Taliban rule is a worrying situation on both the social and economic levels. The Chinese outlet blamed U.S. sanctions and claimed that China had provided $8 million in assistance for families affected by the earthquake in Afghanistan .”

The Global Times published an absurd political cartoon showing Uncle Sam fishing in Afghanistan for cash.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry did not comment on the anniversary at its Monday briefing. Instead, it spent most of its time condemning America and Afghanistan. Wang Wenbin, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that aiding countries to transition into democracy with respect for their human rights is impossible after the Taliban returned to power.

“The ‘Kabul moment’ marks the failure of the ‘democratic transformation’ imposed by the US,” Wang said, according to the transcript of Monday’s briefing. The country’s journey to democracy is only possible if it’s citizens can explore the country’s national circumstances. It is not possible to achieve democracy in every country. Forcing the US-style democracy on a country has invariably led to dysfunction and failure of its implementation.”

” The so-called “leader of the West” left its reputation in ruin when it chose to abandon [sic] its allies and retreat in an hurried fashion,” Wang stated, accusing America with “sowing discorded and inciting confrontation in order to achieve its geopolitical goals .”

Wang ended by requesting that Washington finance the success of the Taliban. He didn’t acknowledge that decades-old Taliban investment in terrorist terrorism was not acknowledged nor the fact that Ayman al-Zawahiri (the head of al-Qaeda) lived in Kabul’s wealthiest neighborhoods before an American airstrike killed him.

China recently condemned Zawahiri’s airstrike, calling it a violation the Taliban’s sovereignty .”
