UK Pediatric Gender Clinic Closed After Damning Review, Faces Legal Action From Former Patients

UK’s National Health Service ordered the closing of a controversial child gender clinic after a report revealed that staff were pressured into taking an unquestioning positive approach to gender dysphoria children.

The Tavistock Centre is located in north London and is also known as the Gender Identity Development Service. Tavistock was founded in 1920 and originally focused on helping WWI shellshock victims. It has expanded to include a range of services, under the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust umbrella. GIDS focuses on gender-related issues for children. Since 1989 GIDS has treated 19,000 children with gender dysphoria (the feeling that one’s true identity is the opposite gender of their physical body).

The external review expressed concern about the insufficient knowledge regarding the impact of hormonal blockers on puberty. Dr. Hilary Cass, the head of the review, wrote a letter to the head of NHS England on July 19:

… The most important knowledge gaps in regard to puberty blocking medications are the lack of understanding about the reasons for prescribing them as an initial step of a transition path or as a pause to give more time to make decisions.

We don’t fully understand how sex hormones play in shaping sexuality through teen years. Therefore, we can’t be certain about what hormone surges will do to gender maturation and psychosexual growth. Puberty blocking drugs may interfere with the decision-making process and could even buy time.

It is interesting to hear a specialist admit that they don’t know all about gender dysphoria or transition. They sound like they have an answer for every question and are well-versed in the side effects of hormone blocking and other surgery. You can see real people being completely honest with their reality by watching Matt Walsh’s documentary What is a Woman . Bonchie has a piece about it.

The Centre isn’t closed just because of these issues. However, the NHS decided to adopt a regional approach and not have one clinic for gender in the country. It is also responsible for the long wait times, sometimes as much as 2 years to receive an appointment.

The gender issue is the heart of the matter and patients and their family members are planning a class action lawsuit against the facility. Plaintiffs will be represented by Pogust Goodhead. The UK Times

a statement from its chief executive Tom Goodhead.

Children and young adolescents were rushed into treatment without the appropriate therapy and involvement of the right clinicians, meaning that they were misdiagnosed and started on a treatment pathway that was not right for them.

These children suffered irreversible and life-changing effects from the treatment that they were given. . . We anticipate that at least 1,000 clients will join this action.

Times Radio interviews Goodhead here:

Tavistock was previously sued in 2020 by former patient Keira Bell, who asserted that she’d been put on puberty blockers at the age of 16 “after a series of superficial conversations with social workers,” and had her breasts removed at age 20–which she regretted. She lost. The court wrote that it was up to the clinicians to determine whether Bell is mature enough for such procedures. Although she wasn’t old enough for a pint at a pub, her consent was sufficient to receive puberty blocking drugs. Ok.

The massive rise in gender dysphoria in recent years and the rush to unquestioningly prescribe every “gender-affirming” drug and surgical procedure is causing serious damage to many young people. More and more tragic stories are starting to come out, and my guess is it’s just the beginning of a tsunami.

I’m for adults being able to do what they like with their bodies. For teens and children who are experiencing gender confusion, I don’t believe surgery or powerful drugs will be the solution.
