Taiwan Says China’s Threat Remains, Though Military Drills Ease

TAIPEI–Chinese regime’s threat of force is undiminished, Taiwan President said Tsai Ing-wenon Thursday, even though Beijing’s largest ever military drills around the island seemed to be scaling down.

Furious at Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Chinese-claimed Taiwan, U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi launched missiles last week and sent several warships and aircraft to the area in recent days to simulating sea and air attack.

The Chinese regime stated Wednesday that it will continue patrolling but has “completed different tasks around Taiwan”, signaling an end to war games while maintaining pressure.

Taiwan also has been carrying out small-scale annual exercises. These were scheduled prior to the flare up and are aimed at repelling an invasion.

” “At the moment, the threat from Chinese military force have not decreased,” Tsai stated to air force officers. According to a statement by her office, Tsai said.

Taiwan will not cause conflict or provoke conflicts, according to her office. She also stated that she would firmly defend her sovereignty and national security and will adhere to the line for defense of democracy .”

Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said in a statement it had on Thursday detected 21 Chinese military aircraft and six Chinese naval ships in and around the Taiwan Strait, of which 11 planes had crossed over the median line.

That was down from the 36 aircraft and 10 ships detected the previous day, when 17 aircraft crossed the median line.

Military Provocations

Taiwan was under threat of Chinese invasion since 1949, when the Republic of China’s nationalist government fled to Taiwan after Mao Zedong’s victory with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The Chinese government claims that its relations to Taiwan are internal and reserves the right, if necessary, to take the island under its authority.

Taiwan’s democratically-elected government says the CCP has never governed the island so has no right to decide its future or claim it for themselves.

“Under the recent provocations by China, our armed forces stand right at the frontlines, its duties will only increase and the pressure will continue to be greater,” said Tsai.

The Chinese military didn’t make any comment about its military activities around Taiwan on Thursday.

However, both sides kept their mouths shut, with Taiwan rejecting China’s “one country” and “two systems” models for taking the island into Beijing’s hands.

To determine Taiwan’s future, only Taiwan’s citizens can decide that, Joanne Ou spoke at a Taipei news conference.

The CCP used Pelosi’s visit to Taipei to “create a new norm to intimidate Taiwanese people,” Ou said.
