Andrew Cuomo asks taxpayers for payment of his legal fees

NEW YORK — Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is suing the attorney General to pay his legal fees as he defends himself from a claim of workplace sexual harassment.

Cuomo brought the lawsuit against Attorney General Letitia Jams on Thursday. Cuomo claims James broke state law when he denied him public aid for his defense.

Soon after James had held a press conference in which she called Cuomo “serialsexual harasser” as well as “sick and pathetic,” the suit states that she refused representation to the former governor. The suit claims that James is violating laws protecting Cuomo’s position when the accusations stemmed from “a time when he was acting within his employment or duties.”

An unnamed trooper sued Cuomo earlier in the year, asking for a federal court’s ruling that Cuomo (and others) violated her civil rights. Plaintiffs seek damages for severe mental anguish “

and emotional distress.

Cuomo was a once powerful Democrat, who won praises for his response in the COVID -19 epidemic. An investigation by James revealed that he had sexually harassed almost a dozen women, and that he, along with his aides, worked together to retaliate. The trooper in his security detail claimed that he made sexual comments to her and sometimes ran his fingers along her stomach.

James was called by Cuomo to investigate James’ case. It said that James’ investigation had been “deeply flawed and misleading” .”

James reacted to Cuomo’s claims that she was abusing her power regarding his legal defence costs by stating, “Sexually harassing young females who work for me is not part of any job description .”

She added that taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay for legal bills which could amount to millions of dollars in order to allow Mr. Cuomo and his lawyer to attack victims of abuse .”
