Whole Foods CEO and Founder Says Socialists Are ‘Taking Control’, American Liberties are at Risk

Whole Foods CEO John Mackey claims that American freedoms are “under threat” because “socialists have taken over the United States.”

Mackey shared these remarks on Thursday, during Reason Magazine’s podcast. Mackey isn’t the first to criticize radical socialist policies. Mackey has stated before that his view on economics was “conscious capitalism .”

“.

Mackey said:

” My concern is that socialists seem to be taking control… they’re marching through institutions. They are taking control of education. They appear to have taken control of many corporations. They seem to have taken control of the military. And it’s just continuing.”

Socialists are known for wanting big government. They want government control over every part of life. This includes government-run healthcare and “community police,” which is an alternative term for eliminating the police. The government also wants to regulate what’s taught at schools by the teachers union.

Some politicians pushing these socialist policies claim that they are helping the working class, and sometimes include the middle classes in their messages. But this is simply false. It’s been attempted, but it has failed again and again. Socialism has put more people in poverty; capitalism has lifted more people out of poverty. These far-left politicians, and their followers, want socialism to bring about communism. This was attempted during Soviet Union’s days, when communists fought capitalism and pushed for communism. This failed.

It’s not working, it won’t work and it will never be successful, but Mackey does have a point. It seems that there is a far-left movement within the United States. If we do not pay attention they will try their hardest to get our attention.

Mackey continued:

” You know that I am a capitalist by nature and believe strongly in capitalism and liberty. These are my two core values. It seems like a lot the freedoms that I have taken as a given throughout my entire life are being threatened .”

, because of how free speech has been regulated today.

He concluded, saying:

” From an investor’s point of view, profit maximization is the goal of the business. But that’s not the purpose for other stakeholders–for customers, employees, suppliers, and the community,” he said in a 2005 debate with Nobel laureate Milton Freidman and former Cypress Semiconductor CEO T.J. Rodgers, “Each of those groups will define the purpose of the business in terms of its own needs and desires, and each perspective is valid and legitimate.”

Repeatedly Mackey has criticized the academic community for encouraging socialist ideas .”
