Department of Justice Indicts Iranian Operative for Plotting to Assassinate John Bolton

The Justice Department has indicted Shahram Poursafi, an Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps member, with plotting to assassinate former U.S. President Donald Trump. John Bolton, National Security Advisor and Ambassador to the United Nations.

According the Justice Department’s press statement on the matter :

According to court documents, on Oct. 22, 2021, Poursafi asked Individual A, a U.S. resident whom Poursafi previously met online, to take photographs of the former National Security Advisor, claiming the photographs were for a book Poursafi was writing. Individual A told Poursafi that he/she could introduce Poursafi to another person who would take the pictures for $5,000-$10,000. Individual A then introduced Poursafi later to an associate, referred to as the confidential human supply or CHS in court documents.

On Nov. 9, 2021, Poursafi contacted the CHS on an encrypted messaging application, and then directed the CHS to a second encrypted messaging application for further communications. Poursafi offered the CHS $250,000 to hire someone to “eliminate” the former National Security Advisor. This amount would later be negotiated up to $300,000. Poursafi stated that he also had a “job” for $1 million.

Poursafi subsequently reinforced the assassination’s motivation was revenge for the Trump-ordered January 2020 killing of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ elite Quds Force leader Qasem Soleimani.

On Jan. 3, 2022, Poursafi noted he was under pressure from “his people” to complete the murder and that Poursafi had to report any delays. Poursafi was asked by the CHS how many were involved. Poursafi stated to the CHS that only one person had to be reported to him, but there was a chain to who his superiors were. Poursafi also expressed his regret at the fact that Qasem’s murder wouldn’t be completed by this date. Poursafi expressed concern that the CHS and Poursafi would lose the job if the task was not completed soon. Poursafi advised the CHS to use a smaller weapon to reach the target. However, if they used a larger weapon, they could keep further away.

A second target was mentioned in addition to Bolton.

On March 10, 2022, Poursafi told the CHS he had another assassination job for the CHS in the United States, but to “keep [the former National Security Advisor] in the back of your mind.” Approximately one month later, Poursafi encouraged the CHS to accept this offer, explaining that if it was done successfully, Poursafi would be able to ingratiate himself with his “group” and regain the tasking to murder the former National Security Advisor.

Although Poursafi wasn’t hiding under Trump’s desk at Mar-a-Lago he is still at large.

Making the targeting of Bolton for assassination somewhat curious is that at the time of Soleimani’s death, Bolton was no longer part of the Trump Administration, having resigned as National Security Advisor in September of 2019. Bolton was elated at Soleimani’s death immediately after it occurred.

Congratulations to all involved in eliminating Qassem Soleimani. This was an important victory against Iran’s evil Quds Force activities. This is the first step towards regime change in Tehran.

However, he was not involved in the matter. This leads one to believe that Iran only watches CNN for information regarding U.S. political affairs. It’s refreshing to see the Justice Department doing their job once in a while, despite his egotism. It is hard not to wonder what the Justice Department would do if Bolton had not been critical of Trump. This is an important question.
