Democrats refuse to accept Rubio’s amendment in which only women can become pregnant

Senate Democrats defeated a budget-reconciliation amendment Sunday that would have limited federal pregnancy programs to biological females, rejecting the Republican challenge to gender-inclusive terms such as “pregnant people.”

The amendment brought by Sen. Marco Rubio, Florida Republican, failed on a 51-50 vote during the marathon vote-a-rama on the sweeping $740 billion climate, tax and healthcare package.

Every Republican voted for the amendment, while all 48 Democrats and the two independent senators who caucus with them voted against it. Breaking the tie in the 50-50 Senate was Vice President Kamala D. Harris.

“Federal funding must reflect the reality that only women can become pregnant. “It looks like my Democrat peers don’t trust the science” after all,” stated Mr. Rubio after the vote.

His amendment, which would have clarified that only women can become pregnant for purposes of maternal and infant-related program funding, drew floor opposition from Sen. Patty Murray, Washington Democrat.

“Let’s talk about the facts: This is a procedure attempt by Republicans, to slow down our ability to pass this bill and deliver for our families,” Murray stated. It’s absurd that Republicans want to discuss pregnancy while in the country, Republicans force women to remain pregnant regardless of their circumstances and push cruel and extreme abortion bans

Mr. Rubio said when introducing his amendment over 15 hours into the so-called vote-a-rama that in 5,500 years of recorded human history, “so far every single pregnancy has been a biological female.”

” The only thing that I want to accomplish is to make sure federal law is clear. He stated that every known pregnancy has taken place in a biological woman. Therefore, federal laws should reflect this fact and ensure that pregnancy programs are only available to biological women. “Very simple.”

Democrats are increasingly looking to replace terms such as “pregnant persons” with “pregnant ladies” in government documents. This is in response to the gender identity movement which maintains that “trans men” refers to biological males who identify themselves as men.

Trans men still can have an ovary and a uterus and so become pregnant like women.

Ms. Murray stated that it was outrageous that Republicans were trying to determine pregnancy on the floor after hours spent voting on amendments .”

Republicans did not have the votes necessary to defeat the Inflation Reduction Act. However, they took advantage of the debate on the floor to vote on about three dozen amendments. This forced Democrats to make positions on important issues before the midterm elections.

The defeated amendments included proposals to tighten border security; promote oil-and-gas lease sales on federal lands and waters, and increase funding for police.
