Rams Quarterback Matthew Stafford’s Elbow Injury is ‘Abnormal’ According to Coach Sean McVay

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has an elbow injury. Coach Sean McVay described the injury as “abnormal for a quarterback.”

This isn’t the first elbow injury that Stafford has suffered. Stafford had an elbow injection during the offseason. He did not throw in spring trainings because the team was being careful with his throwing arm. McVay said that Stafford’s injury was similar to the issues faced by baseball pitchers.

On Wednesday, the quarterback did not take part in drills for individual or 7-on-7. McVay stated that he doesn’t expect McVay to participate in drills during the rest of camp. McVay said that McVay and the star quarterback had tried different approaches during offseason in an effort to ease the pain.

” Is it possible? It’s possible. Is it the best? It wasn’t our idea. Matthew and I both believe that I have a responsibility to ensure decisions are made in the most optimal alignment. All of these things led us to the current point. It is a constantly evolving process. But we will be taking control of the next few weeks to see how things go .”

McVay attempted to assure Stafford that his pain wasn’t a setback, but was “consistent” with what had been happening .”

“[You] want to try to have him operate in as little pain as possible … I think anytime that you’ve played as long and are as tough as he is, I don’t know if you’re ever truly pain-free, but the goal would be for Sept. 8 and really looking towards 17 games then hopefully some games after that if we earn that opportunity.”

“This is the kind of perspective that we need to have and how to use it. I don’t know that I would feel as comfortable taking that approach if it wasn’t for the experience that he’s accumulated and knowing how intentional he is about staying up to speed with his mental and his physical work that he can do in the absence of some of the stuff in the team settings.”

Stafford should be available to play in Week 1, but it is possible that the Rams are cautious as they expect him to return to the Super Bowl.

Although he did not participate in the drills on Thursday, McVay stated that Stafford looked “really good” during practice.

” Even in routes on the air, McVay stated that it’s great to see all the fields being activated. McVay said, “And so I have definitely noticed improvement. Although he was already able to make those kinds of throws, it is not something he can do now .”

If Stafford is unable to play in a couple of games, John Wolford will be ranked second on the depth charts. In Week 1, the defending champ Rams will face Josh Allen and his Buffalo Bills counterparts at SoFi Stadium.
