‘Sanctuary City’: Abbott Buses Migrants to New York City after Mayor Adams Criticismized DC Effort

Republican Texas Governor. According to Friday’s press release, Greg Abbott dispatched his first migrants bus to New York City after Mayor Adams decried the notion of sending people to other states.

“Because of President Biden’s continued refusal to acknowledge the crisis caused by his open border policies, the State of Texas has had to take unprecedented action to keep our communities safe,” Abbott said in a statement. New York City, in addition to Washington, D.C., is an ideal location for migrants, as it offers the city’s abundance of services and housing, which Mayor Eric Adams boasted about. I hope he follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief.”

The Texas Republican began busing migrants to the nation’s capital in April, in response to the Biden administration’s decision to end Title 42, the public health order used to quickly expel certain migrants. The order to stop the policy was later stopped by a federal judge. (RELATED: DC Mayor Requests National Guard Deploy To Address The Border Crisis Coming To The Nation’s Capital)

Months into the effort, Democrat Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser and New York City Mayor Eric Adams criticized the busing, saying city resources were overwhelmed. Adams called Abbott, the Republican Arizona Governor. Doug Ducey has also bused migrants to Washington.

We were going to New York but someone isn’t responding so we now want to travel to Florida. “We’re trying to find people who can help us, because they have people in Florida that will accept us and provide us with work so we can settle down,” one immigrant from Washington said as he left the bus. Adams stated that he is in negotiations with the federal government for additional support through agencies such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA. He also said that the city was open to welcoming migrants. Bowser requested that the D.C. National Guard was deployed in support of the migrants after the influx of just a few thousand people.

Over three million migrants have been encountered by authorities at the U.S.-Mexico border during President Joe Biden’s tenure, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). For months, encounters have surpassed 200,000, reaching record highs.

Neither Adams nor Abbott responded to DCNF’s request for comment.
