Ted Cruz grills DOJ official on the Handling of Pro-Abortion Attacks.

Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz asked Kenneth Polite (Assistant Attorney General of Department of Justice) about the handling of pro-abortion attack cases during Wednesday’s Senate hearing.

Cruz raised concerns about the DOJ’s “politicization of the enforcement of justice” after their response to vandalisms, graffiti and bomb attacks on pro-life centers. According to Cruz, there were at most 82 acts of violence against pro-life institutions since July 27,. These attacks included graffiti, red paint and graffiti on the buildings. However, the DOJ created a “Reproductive rights Task Force” in July 12,.

I have no doubt that, if prolife supporters were firebombing and vandalizing abortion clinics in the United States, DOJ will declare it a national crisis and send the National Guard to help,” Cruz stated. Your politics, and those of your agency, are in agreement with vandals. There has not been a task force. Why is that ?”

“Senator. Polite stated that he believed we all agreed that politics should not be a part of investigative and prosecutorial decisions of Department of Justice. Polite stated that we take any violence in this country very seriously. You can be assured that the incidents you are reflecting on, if taken –“

“Hold up a second, to see if they’re still being considered. The senator interrupted.

Senator. “A number of these incidents not only are priority of the criminal but also of the civil division as well as of our civil rights section,” Polite replied. Cruz then inquired if there were any criminal cases brought before the DOJ in relation to these incidents. Polite refused to answer. After Politico received a draft majority opinion that was slated to repeal Roe v. Wade’s validity, anti-abortion activists attacked pregnancy centers spraying phrases like “If Abortion isn’t safe, you aren’t either” on their windows, and firebombing them. Washington’s Capitol Hill Crisis Pregnancy Center was covered with red paint and the words, “Jane Says Revenge

Police detained 10 protesters who allegedly threw smoke bombs at an Oregon pregnant center June 27. Jane’s Revenge, an activist group, allegedly set fire to a Amherst crisis pregnancy center, New York on June 7th, while Wisconsin Family Action was attacked by arsonists. Molotov cocktails were also used to firebomb the offices of Oregon Right to Life in Keizer.

The senator pressed Polite about the demonstrations at the Supreme Court justices’ homes. He also blamed a few Democratic lawmakers for the assassination of Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh on June 8.

Cruz also questioned why the DOJ had not upheld 18 U.S.C SS 1507, which prohibits private citizens from attempting to influence a court decision by organizing “pickets or parades near or in a building housing a court of the United States, or in or near a building or residence occupied or used by such a judge, juror, witness or court officer.”

“Night, after night, after night, these protesters committed federal crimes on national television. The Department of Justice has refused to enforce U.S.C. SS 1507?”

“Senator, very recently, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland, in fact, has prosecuted a defendant for unlawful conduct in front of the home of one of our Supreme Court justices.”

“So one person?” Cruz asked.

“To date there has only been one prosecution,” Cruz said.

Cruz accused the DOJ following President Joe Biden’s “partisan pattern”, by prosecuting one protester at the justices’ homes. Polite stated that he doesn’t believe the prosecution involved any violations of 18 U.S.C. SS 1507,, but their conduct.

“I think you have to adhere to the law,” Cruz said.
