Lyft driver crashes into a highway killing an ex-Cuomo advisor

DEWEY BEACH, Del. Former New York Governor’s advisor. Andrew Cuomo died in an accident after a Lyft driver forced him to get out of his car on a Delaware highway.

Delaware State Police reported Wednesday that the ride-hailing driver had initially fled and was now cooperating with authorities. No charges have been brought against him in relation to the death of Sidney Wolf, a 43-year-old from Clarksburg, Maryland. WJLA-TV also reported.

The crash occurred around 2:20 a.m. on Sunday. It was caused by six friends ordering a Lyft ride to Dewey Beach and back to Bethany Beach. Police said that the six friends were traveling south along U.S. Route 1 when a disagreement arose with the driver of Lyft. The drivers demanded they stop at the left lane and ask for the six passengers to get out.

That’s when officers said that Wolf got out and was hit by a Toyota Corolla. At the scene, he was declared dead. There were no other injuries.

The Albany Times-Union reported that

Wolf was a senior policy adviser for Cuomo, based in Washington, D.C. Richard Azzopardi, Cuomo’s spokesperson, told the paper that Wolf “always smart and nice .”

Cuomo said he was stunned by the news and called Wolf “a remarkable public servant who worked tirelessly for all NY’ers .”

Wolf was recently the campaign manager for Sidney Katz’s reelection campaign. Katz called Wolf’s death “absolutely devastating,” WJLA-TV reported.

A spokesperson for Lyft stated that they have “permanently removed” the driver from Lyft’s community .”

” We are deeply sorry for this tragedy,” said the spokesperson. We are thinking of Mr. Wolf and his loved ones in this very difficult time.
