Exclusive: Rep. Tom Tiffany: Nancy Pelosi and the White House’s Taiwan Trip is a Stress Test to Separate Powers

Rep. Tom Tiffany, R-WI, told Breitbart News that he hopes Nancy Pelosi (D) will fulfill her declared intention to travel to Taiwan despite opposition from the Biden administration.

Tiffany said he and Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) support Pelosi’s tentative trip to Taiwan.

” We’re simply saying that you’re doing what is right here. Make the trip, and don’t let the Biden administration stop you,'” Tiffany said on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow. We may not agree with Nancy Pelosi on all of the things she does but she sure seems tough and I hope she will continue .”

Pelosi could worsen the decades-old trend towards more centralization in power at the executive branch and federal government, to the detriment of Congress, if she succumbs to White House pressures. Tiffany warns.

“I believe, at this stage, she must [go to Taiwan],” Tiffany decided. “Congress has been subordinate to the executive branch for the past decade, so for her to make this move would degrade Congress further and send a horrible message to Nancy Pelosi .”

Tiffany said, “I hope [Pelosi] does not give up more authority in deference to Biden administration. Especially with the Biden family’s ties with China and other foreign nations .”

The U.S. should recognise Taiwan as a sovereign country, he said.

“Over these past couple of years, we have really been pressing for normalized trading relations and recognition Taiwan,” Tiffany stated. It is indeed a country. It is a peaceful, democratic nation in the world. It should be treated as such by America. Its current status is similar — officialy — to North Korea and Syria. Taiwan’s current status is not like this. Our main concern is for normalized trade and recognition of Taiwan .
