Mining firms backed by China are exploiting Congolese children in order to mine cobalt. This is a critical component of electric car batteries. American carmakers are helping China exploit African children. China is the largest cobalt processor in the world. The Democratic Republic of Congo has unsafe working conditions and a low pay rate of $1 per day. There are also injuries and illnesses in the mines. These are the negative effects of living in a more sustainable world. Are cobalt-based batteries the best option for the future car?
