An image shared to Facebook purportedly displays a screenshot from a Tweet about cats by a verified Nintendo account.

There is no evidence Nintendo sent this tweet. This tweet seems to be from a parody account.

Fact Check:

Nintendo is a Japanese video game company responsible for producing gaming systems such as the Nintendo Switch. A Facebook image claims that the company sent an unusual tweet regarding cats.

The image depicts what looks like a Tweet from Nintendo of America’s Twitter account. It reads: “Meow meow, my friend!” Nothing feels better than inside of a cat.” Despite the tweet allegedly being deleted, according to text included in the image, an image of it has since gone viral on Twitter. There is no proof that the company posted such a Tweet. It could not be found on any of the company’s verified Twitter accounts or on archived versions of the verified Nintendo for America account. There are likewise no credible news reports to corroborate the authenticity of the alleged tweet.

An internet search reveals the same tweet was shared by the account @NintendoUpd8s, a Nintendo parody account, in February 2021.

Someone likely altered that image to make it appear as if the company sent the tweet on its verified Twitter account.
