A Popular Vegan Snack is Recalled after Nearly 100 People Get Sick

After hundreds of people became ill, around 100 were admitted to hospital, the company and federal officials said.

Daily Harvest stated that it had initiated a voluntary recall for its frozen “French Lentil & Leek Crumbles”, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. According to the agency, it’s investigating reports of “gastrointestinal disease and abnormal liver function” in relation to this product.

In a July 14 update, the FDA said that 96 people have been hospitalized to date in about half of all U.S. states. There have been reports of 277 diseases.

Daily Harvest stated that it began a voluntary recall in June following complaints from consumers about illness. According to online reports, some customers experienced hospitalizations or elevated liver enzymes.

A woman from Oklahoma filed a suit against the company, claiming that her gallbladder was removed by one of its products.

” I ate the crumbles two times, unfortunately. “I was there in an emergency room both times. Both were within 48 hours,” Carol Ready explained to the Los Angeles Times .

Daily Harvest released a June statement as a response to the suit. It stated that “Everyone affected should get an answer and we are committed making this right .”

Daily Harvest stated that they have not determined the source of the illness. On June 27, the New York-based firm said it is testing for different “toxins known as mycotoxins, including aflatoxins.”

” Although the results of the first round testing for the most popular have been negative, we will continue to expand our search to make sure we don’t miss anything,” said the statement.

The product was sold online at two locations, the Daily Harvest in Chicago and Los Angeles.

Between April 28 and June 17, 2022, about 28,000 units of the recalled product were distributed to consumers in the 48 lower U.S. states via direct delivery and online sales as well as via the two stores. According to the FDA recall notice, samples were distributed to small numbers of individuals.

” If you have symptoms such as yellowing skin, eyes, dark urine, itching, no rash and gastrointestinal illness (jaundice), severe abdominal pain, fever, nausea or fatigue after eating this product, consult your doctor,” stated the FDA. Let your doctor know that you recently consumed Daily Harvest French Lentil & Leek Crumbles. These illnesses should be reported to the .”

health department by healthcare providers.
