Woman under Fire

Women are different from men, and are therefore not interchangeable within a republic.

On January 17, 2018, I raised my right hand and swore an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” I understood every word, and took it in full confidence.

Sgt. Reagan Hasenfratz, who went viral on TikTok in recent days, seems to have been confused when she did the same. It was as if she had just sworn an oath of allegiance to the Constitution, which gave her the inalienable right and protection to her children’s murders.

Hasenfratz, whose name was Caldwell before she got married to a sergeant from her unit’s, can be hardly blamed for this mistake. It was something she and others had known for many years. The Supreme Court declared this irrevocably so. The fact that the Constitution did not contain any words stating this was irrelevant. It didn’t matter that the Constitution contained no words hinting at this. When she raised her right hand, she thought she was giving herself over to the regime of Roe v. Wade.

And she was in an extremely real sense. The abortion regime is designed to eliminate all distinctions between women and men. It’s the entire goal of the system. A married female U.S. soldier, expressing concern that she may not be able to choose to kill her children, is a better representation of America’s conquest. Imagine if a woman stopped pretending to be a man one day.

In the TikTok viral video, Hasenfratz nearly reaches this realization. After griping that she “woke up from a nap to this [news] on deployment,” the 24-year-old medic launches into a rant about the implications. (According to her public Facebook posts, Sgt. Hasenfratz is a soldier of the 1st Battalion, 66th Armored Regiment, assigned to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. She is expected to be deployed to Central Europe as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve. )

She had just signed on the dotted line a week before Dobbs to extend her contract–this apparently in spite of the fact that we knew the decision was coming months in advance–and now has to “support and defend the Constitution and a country that treats its women like second-class citizens.” The plain fact of the matter is that women are a second class of citizens. They are not inherently inferior to men morally. But they are different, an entirely distinct class of citizens whose role, with all its duties and privileges, cannot just be melted into that of the other. They are different, women and men aren’t the same.

Hasenfratz seems surprisingly direct about the convenience of having abortion-on-demand. She reminds us that she is currently deployed. “And, because I am a doctor, I understand how it works. Of like, I only have very limited access to contraception.” Hasenfratz seems to be concerned about her husband’s deployment when he is currently back in the United States. Just to be clear, she views abortion–the dismemberment and brutal treatment of an innocuous human being–as a form of self-castration. This is a desperate attempt at transcending biology when it conflicts with her professional or personal aspirations.

There can’t be any half-measures. It is not possible to continue to make concessions to people like this woman’s moral and political vision and ask them to end their petty crimes against children. They won’t. Their faith is based on abortion. Because it kills women by proxy, more than drugs or work can ever do for them. Without this sacrament, they cannot imagine a world. It is in their Constitution. It is different from our Constitution.

Male Hasenfratz was not the sole woman who went viral this week for her pro-abortion fanaticism. It seems that “woman” is an overused term. Khiara Bridges is a professor of law at University of California Berkeley. She blasted Senator Josh Hawley’s use of the term in an abortion hearing.

Bridges–sporting a septum piercing and a pair of massive hoop earrings with the word “Professor” set inside each in big block letters–had used instead the phrase “people with a capacity for pregnancy” in an exchange with Senator John Cornyn. A befuddled Hawley asked, “Would that be women?” Bridges, a board member of National Advocates for Pregnant Women, responded that “Many cis women have the capacity for pregnancy, many cis women do not have the capacity for pregnancy. Trans men are also capable of having a baby .”

.

She lost her self-control and quickly became irritable, becoming a grating schoolmarm, then a wild-eyed, ideologue. The senator is invited to her class, where he will “might learn lots .”

Professor Bridges does not consider herself an idiot. A J.D. is hers. She has a J.D. and a Ph.D. in Columbia. Berkeley is her job. Even if we discount all of the academic prestige once attached to those institutions, we must admit she was savvy enough to navigate to and through them. She is confident in many propositions, which would seem absurd to Americans without two brain cells.

Two constitutions, warring creeds and two civilizations have shared this continent over three generations. It is now clear that the illusion of peace, and even unity has been destroyed. Because the illusion of peace was destroyed so fast, our TikTok soldier is now so disillusioned. It is up to her now to choose which Constitution she will be a true member of. It will be harder for other people to realize, but it won’t take long. Hasenfratz is the one who will have to choose.
