SAN DIEGO–A 17-year-old girl was shot in the back July 16 while riding in a car in Little Italy, police said.
The incident happened at 2: 30 a.m. Saturday when a group of people from a motel went to get gas at a station on Pacific Highway and Laurel Street, said Officer O’Brien of the San Diego Police Department.
On the way back from the motel they passed three people walking along the sidewalk. Someone in the car thought that an object was thrown at them, according to the officer.
The driver turned and confronted them on the sidewalk. They got into an argument. O’Brien stated that one person on the sidewalk had fired multiple shots at the female passenger in the car.
She was admitted to hospital for serious injuries, but they were not life-threatening.
Detectives investigated the incident.
