Democrat Rep. Tim Ryan says members of Congress shouldn’t have to show up for work

Ohio U.S. Senate hopeful Rep. Tim Ryan, (D), claimed that the proxy voting system in Congress should become permanent. This would allow lawmakers to avoid in-person work and let them not turn up to vote. He abused this rule to get on the campaign trail for the week.

Ryan, a ten-term congressman, is taking a shot at the Senate after a failed 2020 presidential nomination bid. He was reelected to Congress in 2020 and has been a Biden surrogate.

He was recently caught lying about his proxy voting.

Now — With a history of abuse and lying about proxy voting and keeping Ohio’s constituent offices closed, he is attempting to make proxy voting permanent. This would enable lawmakers to avoid showing up in person for work in Congress.

Ryan told Spectrum News’s Taylor Popielarz, “It’s time to make remote voting a permanent option. I won’t ever apologize for my time spent in Ohio speaking to Ohioans .

“Members of Congress should be able to use the technology at our disposal to do our jobs while also meeting face-to-face with the people we serve, taking care of kids, and more,” Ryan said. JD Vance is afraid to speak to the voters and has spent most of the general election hiding out in his DC house .”

.

Republicans attacked Ryan for running for Senate, where he would be unable to vote proxy. They said that Ryan was lying to constituents and getting hundreds of thousands in taxpayer money.

“To campaign for Tim Ryan, Ryan skipped work and lied about the reasons. Taylor Van Kirk spokeswoman for J.D. Breitbart News heard Vance, Ryan’s Republican opponent. “Tim Ryan has spent 20 years in DC living off the taxpayers to work Tuesday through Thursday, while regular Ohioans show up to work five days a week, and now he doesn’t want to show up in person at all?”

She also said that Tim Ryan, a career politician, gets paid hundreds and thousands of dollars from taxpayers. He uses Covid voting procedures in order to avoid doing the job they pay him .”

“He wants to ensure that other career politicians can make remote voting permanent by making them permanent,” Litzow said. He won’t get to enjoy taxpayer-funded vacations any longer because Ohioans don’t like paying people for nothing

Breitbart News reported this week that Ryan has a history of using proxy voting systems and the coronavirus pandemic to justify wasting taxpayer funds.

The Washington Free Beacon first reported in February that Ryan was fundraising in Los Angeles “the day after the Super Bowl” and, at the time, had already voted by proxy 60 times. Additionally, in April, the outlet reported that in 2021 he kept his Ohio constituent office, which costs tens of thousands of taxpayers’ dollars in rent, closed — purportedly because of coronavirus, though he campaigned in person during that time.

In fact, in June 202o, Ryan criticized a lawsuit brought by Republicans to stop proxy voting. Ryan termed it “political theatre” and hoped that the court would dismiss the case because Republicans wanted to create controversy when there wasn’t any .”

As @TimRyan‘s district, #OH13, has gotten more conservative, what has he learned about outreach as a Dem?
