Mayra Flores has some hot thoughts after CNN writer declares that GOP Latinas are ‘Not The Real Deal’

While First Lady Jill Biden’s Monday “breakfast taco” scandal has put a spotlight on Democratic Party’s inability to connect and engage with Hispanic Americans, a CNN opinion piece that was harshly critical of GOP Latinas raises eyebrows.

Attorney Raul Al. Reyes is a NBC Latino contributor and wrote a piece Tuesday for CNN in which he stated that conservative Latina women such as Mayra Flores, a newly elected Texas Congresswoman, are “not real” since their views allegedly do not reflect Latino voters:

Conservatives are heralding them as “real deal” Republican candidates. These three Latinas are proof the GOP is capable of winning over Latino voters. These three Latinas are from South Texas, Mayra Flores who was elected to a special election in order to be a part of the Gulf Coast. Monica De La Cruz, Cassy Garcia, are all in Congress in the districts bordering Mexico.

[…]

Flores became history by becoming the first Mexican-born woman elected to Congress. They have been praised for challenging the notion that Latinos vote Democratic. Garcia told The New York Times recently, “The red waves are here .”

However, the rise of Flores and De La Cruz deserves to be seen within context. These Latinas are having a moment of fame, but they have views that go beyond the Latino mainstream. They are more of a PR coup for the GOP that reflects Latino voters.

Reyes declared that Flores and De La Cruz were conservatives on abortion and gun control issues. He then tried to argue that most Latinos think differently according to selected polls. This meant that the GOP created the myth of the red wave among Hispanics.

Flores joked that Reyes wasn’t the right taco for her in a Twitter response.

Last week, The New York Times also attacked Flores and De La Cruz.

Flores stated to Fox News in a statement that after the NY Times article was published, she is used to such media attacks and would not allow them to deter her holding Democrat politicos responsible for “my people’s” failures to account:

“I’m proud of my heritage and my family,” Flores De La Cruz, Garcia and Garcia were examples. ” said Fox News Digital via a text. I was raised in Mexico with strong Conservative beliefs to put God first and always remember my family. Liberal media has shown me only hatred and I’ve been told repeatedly by the left that it is better to return to Mexico. They are against us as immigrants. We’re only used for their political purposes and have no concern about our wellbeing. I am here now and I won’t allow them to continue taking advantage of my people.”

In my opinion, Reyes doesn’t get that not all Hispanic voters are divided on abortion, gun control and immigration. The argument is that Hispanic voters don’t have a single viewpoint, as Democrats and other media aides made it out to be.

Like other groups, they differ on the priorities of our elected representatives. This is happening in Florida where Hispanic voters have been abandoning Democrats by large numbers due to the embrace of socialism. The dangers that this poses are well-known among South Florida’s Cuban Americans.

We’ve seen this in Texas’ southern region, where Democrats prioritize so-called climate changes and obsess over “woke” dogma rather than jobs. This has caused a rise in Hispanic voter disenchantment.

No, there’s not a Hispanic voter exodus everywhere in this country, but even in blue states like California, they are becoming more and more dissatisfied with what Democrats have to offer as evidenced by the 2021 recall election to replace Gavin Newsom. Even though it was unsuccessful, the election sent warning signals to Democrats about their inability to assume they will always have Latino voters.

Clearly, Democrats such as Reyes aren’t listening.
