Copenhagen Attack Preventable by ‘Restrictive Gun’ and Ammunition Controls

Denmark is home to some of the strictest gun control laws in the world. However, many people were killed and others injured at Fields Shopping Mall in Copenhagen.

Danish Police confirmed that multiple victims were killed at the shopping center, Breitbart News reported.

Police inspector Soren Thomassen said, “We know that there are several dead…[and] several injured,” according to the Associated Press.

The University of Sydney’s GunPolicy.org categorizes Denmark’s gun control as “restrictive,” and they note that “the right to gun ownership is not guaranteed by law.”

In Denmark, gun owners must first obtain a permit from the government. Only authorized individuals can own and transfer ammunition or guns. Even if a license is obtained, individuals cannot purchase ammunition to match the gun(s).

To acquire a firearms licence, you must pass a mental and criminal background check. The applicant for the license must also show that they have “genuine reasons” to possess a gun.

Private firearms are required to be registered with government. Danish gun control regulations include written specifications that allow licensed gun owners to legally store private ammunition and firearms .”

Other gun regulations include the requirement for an individual to obtain “special authorization” to possess handguns or semi-automatic guns that are classified as “assault weapon .”
